Expectations of Parents

Bobcats Code of Conduct

01

Support Your Child

Support your son/daughter by attending games, whenever possible. Embrace that this is your child’s journey, not yours. Do not live vicariously through them. Put your focus on being a supportive and encouraging parent.

02

Be Present

Make sure your child attends all practices; communicate to your coach when unable to practice.

03

Communicate

Encourage your child to communicate any concerns or questions directly with their coach. This will help the coach understand if a player is concerned, confused or unsure about something.

04

Support the Program

Be supportive of the coaches and all other players and refrain from “coaching from the stands/sidelines”. The only ‘voice’ a player should receive instruction from is their coaches during practices and games. Cheer all you want for them, but please do not coach them from the stands.

05

Respect the Coach

Please do not undermine your child’s coach in the car ride home or at the dinner table. Subtle, passive aggressive comments like: “your coaches doesn’t know what he is doing” or “ I can’t believe you don’t play more” do not comfort your child (whether that is your intention or not). This enables your child to have a bad attitude and to make excuses; both, of which, are unacceptable.

06

Respectful Communication

Communicate with the coach in appropriate ways; discuss your concerns off the court and in private. Practice the “24 Hour Rule”: wait 24 hours to pass before contacting the coach regarding something; it will allow time to think about the situation before addressing, taking the emotion out of the situation. If you feel you are not being heard by the coach after taking this approach,

07

Sportsmanship

Be respectful of officials and other teams’ fans; display good sportsmanship.

08

Big Picture

Understand that the goal of youth basketball is for player development & improvement; not necessarily winning.

Expectations of Players

Bobcats Code of Conduct

01

Do Your Best

Do your best in practice and games; always giving 100% to your coach, team and yourself

05

Communicate

Communicate directly and respectfully with your coach. Don’t be afraid to ask to speak with your coach privately to ask any questions, share concerns or confusion.

02

Always Look to Improve

Work every day to get better. Focus on Fundamentals – dribbling, passing, shooting, footwork, defending and rebounding. This will make you better as you get older and should be worked out outside of practices and gamesre your child attends all practices; communicate to your coach when unable to practice.

06

Attitude

Always display a positive attitude, on & off the court; this includes your body language. Cheer on your teammates when you’re on the court and on the bench.

03

Be Punctual

Be on time to practice and games

04

Be Present

Stay attentive in practice and learn to listen to the coaches.

07

Sportsmanship

Always be a good sport at practice and during games; win or lose. Be respectful to the officials – talking back to officials will not be allowed!

08

Keep Growing

Don’t get discouraged when making a mistake, learn from mistakes and remain positive when receiving instruction and feedback from your coach, officials or teammates.
